 The Excellent Schools Central Florida
Also known as “CenFla” or “Greater Orlando”, Central Florida is located on the East Coast and is the third largest region in the state. Counties that are accounted as part of Central Florida include Brevard, Seminole, Orange, Lake, Osceola, and Volusia – the area surrounding metropolitan Orlando. Some of the area’s greatest assets are the excellent schools; Central Florida is home to the University of Central Florida (UCF), for one – the state’s largest university and the third largest in the country in terms of number of enrollees.
UCF is a public research university that was originally founded with the goal of producing potential employees for the nearby Kennedy Space Center. As of last year, the school had over 53,000 students enrolled in more than 225 degree selections.
The UCF, however, is only the first on the list of the excellent schools Central Florida has to offer. Brevard County, also known as the “Space Coast”, has a higher percentage of college graduates compared to the other counties in the state. Schools providing college education in the area include the Brevard Community College and the Florida Institute of Technology. The Community College Cocoa Campus also houses a branch of the UCF.
Orange and Osceola Counties are also home to quite a few of the excellent schools Central Florida offers its residents; Olympia High School in Orange has an advanced placement program which offers advanced placement courses to academically gifted students and Gateway High School in Osceola hosts the county’s international baccalaureate program and is also the location of one of the largest performance art centers in Osceola.
